How to Sell Stuff on Ebay

The 5 Easy Steps

Many people know that a great way to make money is to sell your stuff on eBay, but the problem is that many people don’t know how. Selling on eBay is simple and fast, and in this article I will take you through a simple 5 step guide to get you started. Before you want to sell anything, you need to set up an eBay account and set up an eBay seller account. Together this should take around 10
minutes.

Step 1: Take pictures of your item

Use a digital camera or your iPhone to take several pictures of your object from different angles, to show the buyer all of the objects features. After you have the pictures you want, you need to put them on to your computer in an easily accessible folder (I suggest you make a special folder for just eBay pictures). Once the pictures you want to use are on your computer you’re ready to move on.

Step 2: Log on to eBay

Go to www.ebay.com and sign in. Once you are signed in, in the top bar of the website just right of center will be a tab that says “sell”. Hover over the tab and select the link that says “sell and item”, this will take you to a screen that says “what do you want to sell”. When you’ve reached this point you’re ready for the next step.

Step 3: Category

In order to figure out what category to put your item in, you must type in your item into the search bar in the middle of the screen. For example if I was selling a guitar, I would type in 1972 Fender Stratocasters. Then would choose the category that fits the item best, in our example it would be Guitar > Vintage (Pre-1980) > Electric. You can choose more than one category, but it might cost extra. After you’ve chosen your category click continue.

Step 4: Create Your Listing

After completing the previous steps you should come to a page full of empty boxes that need to be filled. The title it very important, it is what people see first! In your title be descriptive and accurate, but don’t put filler. For example if I was to sell a wrench I wouldn’t just put Wrench, I would put Craftsman Metric 11mm Chrome Vanadium Wrench. This widens my chance of people finding my item
in search results.

After you fill out some of the item specifics you will come to the Add Pictures box. To add pictures, Click on the add pictures box right above the apricot colored square. When you do this a window should appear. In the window click the Browse… button, it should bring up another window. When this window appears you should find the picture files of your item that you saved on your computer. Once you find them, click and drag your mouse to highlight all of the files you would like to use. Once your files have been highlighted, click open. This will cause them to start uploading in the first window. Once all of the pictures have finished loading, click the blue upload button at the bottom left corner of the window. Now your pictures have been uploaded.

Next write a description of your item in the description box. After you write your description scroll down to the section titled “Choose how you’d like to sell your item”. Here you can choose a buy it now price or and auction set up with a starting price. Next .you need to set a price for shipping (you can research rates with the “Research Rates” button or by going to www.ups.com). Once everything is filled out click the blue continue button.

Step 5: Review Your Listing

Once you come to the Review your listing page you can make sure that everything about your item is correct. On this page you can see how your listing will show in results, and have the option to preview your listing if you press the “Preview your listing” button. Once you’ve made sure that everything is correct proceed to press the blue button at the bottom one last time. Now you’re finished listing your item on eBay.

It really is a simple process! Whether you’re listing old antiques or your information security masters degree textbooks, eBay is a great place to start.  Good luck!

Well Craigslist only list’s your things on a local scale. It has it’s pluses and minuses. I’m not a huge user of amazon, so i’m not so sure. Ebay is definitely a great way to sell smaller items, or more unique items. Ebay also has it’s new local listing feature which works pretty well.
